Dialüsaadis, also known as dialysis, is a medical procedure used to perform the function of the kidneys when they are unable to adequately filter waste products and excess fluids from the blood. This condition, known as end-stage renal disease (ESRD), can result from chronic kidney disease, acute kidney injury, or other kidney-related disorders. Dialysis helps maintain electrolyte balance, regulate fluid levels, and remove toxins that would otherwise accumulate in the body, preventing severe complications such as uremia, which can be life-threatening.

There are three primary types of dialysis: hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, and continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT). Hemodialysis involves circulating the patient’s blood through an external filter called a dialyzer, which removes waste and excess fluids before returning the cleaned blood to the body. This process typically occurs in a clinic or hospital three times a week for several hours per session. Peritoneal dialysis uses the lining of the abdomen (peritoneum) as the natural filter. A sterile solution is introduced into the peritoneal cavity through a catheter, where it absorbs waste and excess fluids before being drained out. This method can be performed at home and is often done continuously or intermittently over longer periods. CRRT is generally used for critically ill patients in intensive care units, providing a slower, more controlled filtration process to avoid rapid shifts in fluid and electrolyte balance.

Dialüsaadis is essential for patients with kidney failure, as it buys time while they await a kidney transplant or allows them to manage their condition long-term. However, it is not a cure and does not restore kidney function. Patients on dialysis must adhere to strict dietary and medication regimens to complement the procedure, as improper fluid or electrolyte intake can lead to complications such as hypertension, heart disease, or bone disorders. Advances in technology have improved the efficiency and safety of dialysis, but it remains a lifelong commitment for many patients, requiring careful medical supervision and lifestyle adjustments.
