Diabetukseen, or diabetes in English, is a chronic metabolic disorder characterized by elevated blood sugar levels over a prolonged period. This condition arises when the body either does not produce enough insulin or cannot effectively use the insulin it produces. Insulin is a hormone produced by the pancreas that regulates blood sugar.

There are several main types of diabetes. Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease where the body's immune system attacks and destroys insulin-producing cells in the pancreas. It typically develops in children and young adults and requires lifelong insulin therapy. Type 2 diabetes is the most common form, accounting for about 90-95% of all cases. It is characterized by insulin resistance, where the body's cells do not respond properly to insulin, and a relative deficiency in insulin secretion. Type 2 diabetes is often associated with lifestyle factors such as obesity and lack of physical activity, though genetics also plays a role. Gestational diabetes is a temporary form that occurs during pregnancy and typically resolves after childbirth, but it increases the risk of developing type 2 diabetes later in life for both the mother and the child.

Symptoms of diabetes can vary but often include increased thirst, frequent urination, unexplained weight loss, increased hunger, fatigue, blurred vision, and slow-healing sores. Long-term complications of uncontrolled diabetes can be severe and affect various organs, including the heart, blood vessels, eyes, kidneys, and nerves. Management of diabetes typically involves a combination of diet, exercise, medication, and regular monitoring of blood glucose levels.
