Derdeperspectief, often translated as third-person perspective, is a narrative mode in writing where the narrator is not a character in the story. Instead, the narrator is an outside observer who recounts the events as they unfold. This perspective can be further categorized into limited and omniscient.

In a third-person limited perspective, the narrator focuses on the thoughts, feelings, and experiences of a single character, or a select few. The reader only knows what that specific character knows or observes. This creates a sense of intimacy with the chosen character, allowing for deep exploration of their inner world.

Conversely, third-person omniscient grants the narrator access to the thoughts, feelings, and actions of all characters in the story. The narrator has a god-like view, able to move freely between different characters and provide insights that no single character might possess. This allows for a broader scope and a more complex interplay of motivations and plotlines.
