Initially, a material typically follows an elastic dehnungspfad. In this region, stress is directly proportional to strain (Hooke's Law), and the deformation is reversible. As stress increases further, the material may reach its yield point. Beyond this point, the dehnungspfad enters the plastic region. In this phase, the deformation is permanent; the material will not return to its original shape even after the stress is removed.
