Degtyars are a type of firearm accessory, specifically a cleaning rod. They are commonly associated with Soviet and Russian small arms, such as the Kalashnikov rifle series. A degtyar is typically a metal rod, often made of steel, designed to be inserted down the barrel of a firearm to remove fouling, carbon buildup, and other debris. It usually has a threaded end or a handle that allows for the attachment of cleaning patches or brushes.

The primary function of a degtyar is to facilitate the cleaning process of a rifle or machine gun barrel. By pushing a patch soaked in cleaning solvent through the bore, it helps loosen and remove residues that can accumulate after firing.
