Datahallar, commonly known as data centers or server halls, are purpose-built facilities that house computer systems and related equipment such as storage, networking, and telecommunications equipment. They provide power, cooling, and physical and logical security necessary for continuous operation of information technology infrastructure. The central goal of a data hall is high availability, fault tolerance, and security for mission-critical workloads.

A typical data hall includes racks or cabinets, power distribution units, uninterruptible power supplies, backup generators, cooling systems (CRAC units, chillers, or liquid cooling), monitoring, and fiber optic networks. It may feature raised floors, hot aisle/cold aisle arrangements, and containment to improve energy efficiency and air distribution. Redundancy is common and described by tier levels or N+1 or 2N architectures.

Data halls are deployed in several models: enterprise or on-premises data centers owned by a single organization; colocation or multi-tenant facilities that host multiple customers' equipment; and hyperscale data centers built and operated by large cloud providers. Edge data halls are smaller facilities located near end users to reduce latency.

Key design considerations include power reliability, cooling capacity, energy efficiency, space utilization, scalability, and resilience. Metrics such as PUE (power usage effectiveness) indicate efficiency. Location factors include access to fiber, power grid reliability, climate, and regulatory requirements regarding data sovereignty and privacy.

Operations cover security (physical access control, surveillance), environmental monitoring (temperature, humidity), fire suppression, and disaster recovery. Standards and certifications such as Uptime Institute's tier system, ISO 27001, and regional electrical codes guide best practices.
