Dakdekker, or roof tiler, is a tradesperson who specializes in the construction, installation, maintenance, and repair of roofs. The term is Dutch, and the occupation is common in the Netherlands and Flanders. They install and repair roof coverings on residential, commercial, and industrial buildings, and may work on new construction as well as renovations. Typical duties include inspecting roof structures, selecting appropriate materials, preparing substrates, and ensuring weatherproofing. They apply coverings, install underlayment and insulation, fit flashing, seal joints, and install components such as vents, chimneys, and skylights. They also perform repairs to leaks, replace damaged tiles or panels, and carry out preventive maintenance to extend roof life.
