dAosta, officially Valle d'Aosta or Valle d'Aosta/Vallée d'Aoste, is Italy's smallest autonomous region, located in the northwestern Alps. It is the smallest Italian region by area and population, and it has a special autonomous status that grants it legislative powers on many matters. The regional capital is Aosta.

Geography and landscape: Valle d'Aosta is bordered by France to the west and by Switzerland to the north and east, with the Piedmont region to the south.
