csendélet is the Hungarian term for the still life genre in visual art. It refers to paintings that depict inanimate subjects, such as fruit, flowers, food, household objects, and other objects arranged for a deliberate composition. The emphasis is on form, color, texture, light, and the illusion of realism rather than narrative action or movement.

Historically, Hungarian painters encountered still life through Western European models, especially Dutch and Flemish works of the 17th century, and the genre gained prominence in the Baroque period.
