Corrodes is the third-person singular present tense form of the verb corrode, meaning to be gradually worn away, dissolved, or destroyed by chemical or electrochemical reaction with the surrounding environment. In a materials science context, corrosion describes the deterioration of metals and alloys as they interact with oxygen, water, and other chemical species such as acids, chlorides, or sulfates.

Corrosion occurs through redox reactions in which the metal acts as an anode or cathode, electrons move through the material, and corrosion products such as oxides, hydroxides, or chlorides form on the surface.
