Clinkerbuilt, or clinker-built, refers to a traditional hull construction method in which the longitudinal hull planks overlap along their edges, forming a lapstrake hull. The overlapping planks are fastened to a framework of transverse frames and stem and stern posts, typically with nails or rivets. The technique produces a hull that is relatively lightweight, strong, and flexible, properties that aid performance in rough seas and enable repairs to be made on the water.
