Lapstrake, also known as lapstreak or clinker construction, is an ancient method of building wooden boats. In this technique, the edges of each plank overlap the edge of the plank below it. This overlapping creates a distinct stepped appearance along the hull. The planks are typically fastened together with rivets, nails, or screws.
