Variants include public, private, and consortium networks, each with different trade-offs for openness, throughput, and governance. Scalability efforts contrast with security and decentralization requirements.

In software and data processing, chaining often refers to pipelines of processing steps or middleware. This enables modular, reusable components but requires attention to latency, error handling, and fault isolation.
