The etymology combines "cell" with "telling." Practitioners vary in interpretation; commonly celletelling involves using patterns associated with cells—such as shapes observed under a microscope, representations of cellular processes, or metaphorical links to cellular life—to generate personal narratives or forecasts.

Methods are eclectic. Some storytellers map cellular processes to life events, others assemble prompts from images or computer simulations, and some rely on symbolic readings rather than any laboratory data.

Reception and status: celletelling lacks scientific validation and is generally regarded as entertainment, conceptual art, or a niche belief system. In academic or clinical contexts, it is described as speculative or fictional rather than evidence-based.

In fiction and contemporary art, celletelling is sometimes used to explore themes of life complexity, interdependence, and the idea that tiny units of life contain broader patterns.
