Cambialskader refers to damage to the vascular cambium, a plant tissue responsible for secondary growth. This layer of actively dividing cells is crucial for increasing the diameter of stems and roots by producing new xylem and phloem. Injury to the cambium can disrupt this process, leading to various consequences for the plant.

Causes of cambialskader can be diverse, including mechanical damage such as that from lawnmowers, string trimmers, or animal gnawing. Environmental factors like frost damage, drought stress, or excessive heat can also impair cambial function. Pathogens, including certain fungi and bacteria, can infect and destroy cambial cells, while insect infestations can feed on or burrow into the cambium, causing significant damage. Chemical exposure, such as from herbicides or de-icing salts, can also be detrimental.

The symptoms of cambialskader vary depending on the extent and location of the injury. Visible signs may include bark peeling, cracks, or wounds on the stem or root. Discoloration of the affected tissue is also common. Reduced growth, dieback of branches, or overall decline in plant vigor can occur as the vascular system's ability to transport water and nutrients is compromised. In severe cases, especially if the cambium is girdled, the entire portion of the plant above the damage may die. Management strategies focus on preventing injury through proper horticultural practices, protecting vulnerable areas, and addressing underlying stressors or infections if present.
