Blødlukning is a term used primarily in Danish to describe a mechanism or process that closes equipment, doors, or components gradually and quietly, by reducing the closing velocity before a final stop. The concept parallels the English term soft closing or soft-close.

In practice, soft-closure employs dampening elements that absorb kinetic energy as the moving part approaches its end position. Common implementations include hydraulic or pneumatic dampers integrated into hinges, slides, or latches; viscous friction fluid layers; magnetic braking; or tuned springs that decelerate motion. Some systems use active control with sensors and actuators to modulate speed.

Applications of blødlukning are widespread in furniture hardware, such as cabinet hinges and drawer slides, to produce a quiet, smooth shut and prevent finger pinching. It is also used in doors, trunk lids, and some industrial gates, as well as certain consumer appliances and electronics enclosures.

Benefits of soft-closure include reduced noise, minimized wear, less impact damage, and improved safety. Limitations include higher cost, potential maintenance requirements, and space or design constraints to accommodate dampers; in some cases, a very soft closure can feel slower, especially when many units are close in quick succession.
