Blackpilling is a term originating from online communities, particularly those associated with the manosphere, that describes a state of profound pessimism and hopelessness regarding one's own prospects, especially in romantic relationships. It is characterized by the belief that societal structures, biological factors, or inherent personal flaws make certain individuals, typically men, destined for failure and loneliness.

The concept suggests that an individual has moved beyond denial or hope and has accepted a grim reality. This acceptance is often accompanied by a sense of fatalism, where efforts to improve one's situation are seen as futile. Blackpilling is distinct from simply being depressed or having a bad day; it represents a deeply ingrained worldview that colors all aspects of an individual's life and interactions.

The term's origin is often linked to the movie The Matrix, where taking the "blue pill" allows a person to remain in blissful ignorance, while taking the "red pill" reveals the harsh and unpleasant truth. Blackpilling can be seen as an extreme, despondent interpretation of the "red pill" revelation. It is often associated with feelings of resentment, anger, and isolation, and can contribute to the formation of echo chambers where these negative beliefs are reinforced.
