Betonanker, in English usually called a concrete anchor, is a fastening device designed to secure components to concrete or masonry. They transfer the load from a fixture into the surrounding substrate and rely on mechanical expansion, friction, or chemical adhesion to achieve holding power.

Common types include expansion anchors (such as wedge anchors and sleeve anchors), mechanical anchors like drop-in anchors, concrete screws and self-tapping screws, and chemical anchors that use epoxy or vinyl ester resin with threaded rods or bolts. There are also specialized anchors for vibration or seismic needs, as well as stainless steel versions for corrosive environments.

Installation typically involves selecting the correct anchor type and size, drilling a hole to the specified diameter and depth, and cleaning the hole. Expansion anchors are inserted and tightened until the sleeve expands to grip the concrete. Chemical anchors require injecting resin, inserting the fixture, and allowing the resin to cure before loading. Concrete screws are driven in to create threads within the concrete. Following the manufacturer’s instructions and using appropriate tools and safety measures is essential.

Performance and selection depend on factors such as load direction (tension or shear), fixture thickness, embedment depth, concrete strength, and environmental exposure. For outdoor or corrosive settings, materials like stainless steel are often preferred. Designers and installers should adhere to relevant standards and the manufacturer’s data, ensuring proper edge distances, spacing, and embedment to prevent failure. Improper installation can lead to anchor pull-out or concrete damage.
