Betalæsere, also known as tomte or Finnish forest spirit, is a creature from Scandinavian and Finnish folklore that has taken many forms throughout history. The concept of betalæsere originated from the Norse mythology and is closely related to the idea of land spirits and ancestors.

Believed to inhabit the wilderness, forests and mountains, betalæsere are thought to be guardians of nature and its secrets.
