Bauxiitissa is the Estonian inessive form of bauxiit (bauxite), used in geological and mineralogical texts to denote a context or process occurring within bauxite ore.

Bauxiit is a primary ore of aluminum and is typically an oxide-rich material formed in tropical to subtropical weathering environments. It comprises hydrated aluminum oxides and hydroxides, with the main mineral phases being gibbsite, boehmite, and diaspore. Impurities often include silica, iron oxide, and sometimes titanomagnetite. The ore forms as a consequence of prolonged weathering and leaching of aluminum-bearing rocks, leading to a crust where aluminum hydroxides concentrate.

Mining and processing of bauxite involve open-pit extraction followed by refining to produce alumina (Al2O3) through the Bayer process. The alumina is then subjected to smelting via the Hall–Héroult process to produce aluminum metal. The ore’s physical and chemical properties, including impurity levels, influence processing efficiency and the quality of the final metal.

Global production and distribution: The leading bauxite producers include Australia, Guinea, Brazil, Jamaica, and India, with additional important sources in Suriname, Malaysia, and Guyana. Bauxite reserves and ore grade vary by region, affecting long-term supply and economic considerations for aluminum manufacture.

In scientific usage, bauxiitissa may appear when discussing mineral textures, reactions, or processes that occur specifically within bauxite ore, rather than in the metal or refined products.
