Batikkikynäs is a specialized tool used in batik art, a dyeing technique traditionally practiced in Indonesia. The word "batikkikynäs" itself is Finnish and translates to "batik pen." This tool serves a similar purpose to a pen or brush, but instead of ink, it holds hot liquid wax.

The primary function of a batikkikynäs is to apply wax to fabric in a controlled manner. This wax acts as a resist, preventing dye from reaching the areas it covers. As the artist applies the wax, they create patterns and designs on the cloth. The wax is typically made from a mixture of paraffin and beeswax, which melts at a relatively low temperature and solidifies quickly on the fabric.

Batikkikynäs come in various designs, often featuring a small reservoir to hold the molten wax and a fine metal tip through which the wax flows.
