Bantoue is a flowering plant belonging to the family Myrtaceae. The species, scientifically named *Bantuea integrifolia*, was first described in 1878 by the botanist Friedrich Ziesemann. It is native to the tropical lowlands of West Africa, with populations recorded in Senegal, The Gambia, Guinea-Bissau, and southwestern Mali. The tree can reach heights of up to 15 metres, and its evergreen broad leaves are smooth and glossy with a characteristic glossy green underside. The shrub or small tree produces small, white to pale pink flowers in dense terminal clusters, and later develops a globular fruit that turns bright red when ripe.
