Bérmáláskonfirmáció is a Hungarian term used in ecumenical and liturgical contexts to describe the rite of confirmation across Christian traditions, especially the Roman Catholic practice of bérmálás and the Protestant practice of konfirmáció. The concept encompasses the underlying purpose of confirmation in many churches: to strengthen baptismal grace, empower the believer to live out the Christian faith, and publicly affirm membership in the church.

In the Roman Catholic Church, bérmálás is considered a sacrament typically conferred after baptism and catechetical instruction. It is usually administered by a bishop, or by a priest in specific circumstances with permission. The rite commonly includes the laying on of hands and the anointing with holy chrism on the forehead, accompanied by the participant’s profession of faith and vows to live as a Christian. The effect, as taught by the Catholic tradition, is the strengthening of the gifts of the Holy Spirit and a deeper infusion of grace, marking the individual as a full member of the Church.

In Protestant traditions, konfirmáció is generally a rite of initiation or affirmation of faith that may or may not be considered a sacrament, depending on the denomination.
