Axial-leaded components are electronic parts whose electrical leads extend from opposite ends of the component body along its axis. This axial geometry allows the part to be mounted through holes in a printed circuit board with the body straddling the holes on the board surface. The term is commonly written as axial-leaded or axial leaded.

Typical axial-leaded parts include resistors, film or paper capacitors, inductors, and some diodes. Resistors are often cylindrical with color bands indicating resistance. Film capacitors can be cylindrical or rectangular with axial leads. Inductors likewise appear as coils with thin axial leads. In modern practice, many axial components have also been produced in MELF packages for surface-mount or mixed-technology boards.

Advantages of axial-leaded components include straightforward through-hole assembly with minimal lead bending required, and ease of hand soldering. They can offer robust mechanical attachment and are suitable for through-hole prototyping or repair. Disadvantages include slower automated assembly on dense boards, larger footprint on the board compared with equivalent surface-mount devices, and a dependency on through-hole mounting that is less common in modern equipment.

Axial and radial refer to lead geometry. Radial-leaded components have both leads exiting from the same side of the body, designed for mounting the part flat on the board with the leads bent to through-holes. Through-hole fabrication has declined in favor of SMT in consumer electronics, though axial-leaded parts remain in use for high-voltage, high-reliability, or refurbishment contexts.
