Avrundningslägen refer to the different methods or rules used when rounding numbers. Rounding is the process of simplifying a number to a specific degree of precision, such as to the nearest ten, hundred, or decimal place. There are several common avrundningslägen, each with its own logic for determining whether to round up or down.

The most common avrundningsläge is standard rounding, often referred to as "round half up." In this method, if the digit to the right of the rounding place is 5 or greater, the digit in the rounding place is increased by one. If the digit is 4 or less, the digit in the rounding place remains unchanged. For example, rounding 3.7 to the nearest whole number using this method results in 4, while rounding 3.2 results in 3.

Another avrundningsläge is "round half to even," also known as banker's rounding. This method is often used in scientific and financial contexts to minimize bias. When the digit to the right of the rounding place is 5, the digit in the rounding place is rounded to the nearest even digit. If the digit in the rounding place is already even, it remains unchanged. If it is odd, it is rounded up to the next even digit. For instance, rounding 3.5 to the nearest whole number would result in 4 (which is even), while rounding 2.5 would also result in 2 (which is even).

Other avrundningslägen include rounding down (truncation), where the number is simply cut off at the desired precision, and rounding up, where the number is always rounded to the next higher value at the specified precision.
