Asexuality is distinct from celibacy or abstinence, which are choices to refrain from sexual activity, whereas asexuality is an orientation that describes a fundamental lack of sexual attraction. Asexual individuals can form meaningful and fulfilling romantic and emotional relationships. The ace community is diverse, with many different experiences and identities within the broader umbrella of asexuality. This includes terms like demisexual, which describes someone who only experiences sexual attraction after forming a strong emotional bond with another person, and gray-asexual, which describes those who experience sexual attraction rarely or with low intensity. Awareness and understanding of asexuality have grown in recent years, contributing to greater visibility and acceptance for asexual individuals.
