Artériaszkület is a Hungarian term that translates to "arterial calcification" or "arteriosclerosis" in English. It refers to the hardening and narrowing of arteries due to the buildup of plaque, which consists of cholesterol, fats, calcium, and other substances. This condition is a common cause of cardiovascular diseases, including heart attacks and strokes.

The process of artériaszkület typically begins with damage to the inner lining of the artery, often caused by factors like high blood pressure, high cholesterol, smoking, or diabetes. Once the lining is damaged, plaque starts to accumulate in that area. Over time, this plaque can harden and calcify, making the artery less flexible and reducing blood flow.

Symptoms of artériaszkület are often not apparent until the arteries become significantly narrowed or blocked.
