Argaanõli, commonly known as argan oil, is a plant oil extracted from the kernels of the argan tree (*Argania spinosa*), which is native to the southwestern region of Morocco. The tree thrives in the arid and semi-arid climate of the region, particularly in the argan forests of the Souss-Massa-Drâa area, where it has been cultivated for centuries by the indigenous Berber communities.

The extraction process of argan oil is labor-intensive and traditionally involves hand-cracking the argan fruit, separating the kernels from the pulp, and grinding them into a paste. This paste is then cold-pressed to yield the oil, a method that preserves its natural properties. Due to its time-consuming production, argan oil is often referred to as "liquid gold" in Morocco.

Argan oil is renowned for its high nutritional value and rich content of essential fatty acids, including oleic acid (up to 80%) and linoleic acid, as well as vitamin E and antioxidants. These components contribute to its wide range of applications in both culinary and cosmetic industries. In cooking, argan oil is prized for its nutty flavor and is commonly used as a finishing oil for salads, dips, and grilled dishes. Its high smoke point also makes it suitable for light frying.

In cosmetics, argan oil is celebrated for its moisturizing and skin-nourishing properties. It is frequently used in skincare products to treat dry skin, reduce wrinkles, and promote hair health. Its ability to penetrate the skin deeply and its anti-inflammatory effects have made it a popular ingredient in natural beauty routines.

The cultivation and trade of argan oil have significant economic and cultural importance in Morocco. The argan oil industry supports local communities, particularly women, who play a central role in its production. In 2001, the argan forests were designated as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, recognizing their ecological and cultural significance. Today, argan oil is exported globally, though efforts continue to ensure sustainable and ethical production practices.
