Amerikanminkki (Neovison vison), commonly known as the American mink, is a semi-aquatic mammal belonging to the family Mustelidae. Native to North America, it inhabits a range that spans from Arctic Canada through the northern United States, reaching as far south as northern Mexico.

The American mink is characterized by its slender body, short legs, and a long, streamlined shape suited for swimming. Its fur is dense, soft, and varies in color from rich brown to black, with a white patch on the chin or throat in some individuals. Adult minks typically measure between 35 to 45 centimeters in body length, with a tail length of approximately 15 to 20 centimeters, and weigh around 0.7 to 1.2 kilograms.
