Akht, also known as the Egyptian Vulture or Pharaoh's Hen, is a bird of prey native to parts of Africa, Southern Europe, and Asia. It is the only member of the genus Neophron. Akhts are characterized by their white plumage, contrasting black flight feathers, and bald, yellow face. They are scavengers, playing a crucial role in their ecosystems by cleaning up carcasses. Their diet primarily consists of carrion, though they are also known to eat insects and small animals.

These birds have a unique foraging behavior, often seen using tools such as pebbles to break open eggs. They exhibit a highly social nature, frequently gathering in flocks, especially at feeding sites. Akhts have a complex social hierarchy and engage in elaborate courtship displays. They typically nest on cliffs or in caves, laying one or two eggs. Both parents participate in incubation and raising the young.

The conservation status of the Akht is a significant concern. Populations have declined dramatically in many areas due to factors such as poisoning, habitat loss, and electrocution from power lines. Conservation efforts are underway to protect remaining populations and their habitats. The species is culturally significant in some regions, historically associated with royalty and protection.
