aikidogi
An aikidogi is the uniform worn by practitioners of aikido. It is typically made of heavy cotton material, similar to a judogi or karate gi, and consists of three main parts: a uwagi (jacket), a zubon (pants), and a obi (belt). The uwagi is designed to be durable and allow for a wide range of motion, essential for the dynamic techniques of aikido. It usually features reinforced stitching, particularly on the lapels and seams, to withstand the stresses of grappling and throws. The zubon are loose-fitting trousers, often with reinforced knees for added durability. The obi, worn around the waist, signifies the practitioner's rank. White is the standard color for the aikidogi, though some dojos may permit other colors for specific purposes or higher ranks. The fabric is usually pre-shrunk, but it is common for the uniform to shrink further with repeated washing and drying. Proper care of the aikidogi is important to maintain its integrity and appearance.
