Adenoid related is a term that refers to conditions or symptoms associated with the adenoids, which are lymphoid tissues located in the nasopharynx, the upper part of the throat behind the nose. Adenoids are part of the immune system and are typically largest in children between the ages of 3 and 10, gradually shrinking in adulthood.

When adenoids become enlarged, a condition known as adenoid hypertrophy, they can cause a variety of problems. Common symptoms include nasal obstruction, leading to mouth breathing, snoring, and a characteristic "adenoid facies" where the face appears elongated with an open mouth and sometimes dental issues. Enlarged adenoids can also contribute to recurrent ear infections by blocking the opening of the Eustachian tubes, which connect the middle ear to the nasopharynx. This blockage can lead to fluid buildup in the middle ear, causing hearing loss and discomfort.

Other adenoid-related issues can include sleep-disordered breathing, such as obstructive sleep apnea, characterized by pauses in breathing during sleep. Chronic nasal congestion and postnasal drip are also frequently reported. Diagnosis often involves a physical examination, imaging techniques like lateral neck X-rays or a nasopharyngoscopy. Treatment depends on the severity of symptoms and may range from watchful waiting and medical management with nasal steroids to surgical removal of the adenoids, a procedure called adenoidectomy, typically performed in conjunction with tonsillectomy.
