Aaalgoritm is not a standard term in computer science. In practice it usually refers to the concept of an algorithm and is often the result of a typographical error or a nonstandard spelling in some languages. The mainstream spelling varies by language, with algorithm in English and algoritem or algoritm/algoritme in several European languages.

The word algorithm comes from the Latinisation of the name of the Persian mathematician al-Khwarizmi, through medieval Latin algorithmi. It ultimately traces to the Arabic term for a procedural calculation. The term has evolved to denote a precise, repeatable procedure for solving a problem or performing a computation.

An algorithm is a finite set of unambiguous instructions that, given an input, produces a valid output and terminates after a finite number of steps. It should be well defined, effective, and applicable to the problem it intends to solve. Algorithms are the core of computer programs, but they can be described independently of hardware or programming languages.

Historically, algorithms range from Euclid’s method for computing the greatest common divisor to the formalization of computation in the 20th century by figures such as Turing, Church, and Gödel. Algorithms are represented in many forms, such as natural-language descriptions, pseudocode, flowcharts, or actual code. They are evaluated by correctness, efficiency, and scalability and are central to fields from data processing and cryptography to artificial intelligence and software engineering.
