A Zuständigkeitenmatrix, often translated as a responsibility assignment matrix or RACI chart, is a project management tool used to clarify roles and responsibilities within a project or organization. It visually maps out who is responsible for, accountable for, consulted on, and informed about specific tasks or deliverables. The acronym RACI stands for Responsible, Accountable, Consulted, and Informed.

The "Responsible" role is assigned to individuals who perform the work to complete a task. There can be multiple responsible parties. The "Accountable" role is assigned to the single person who owns the task and has the ultimate authority for its completion and quality. This person approves the work done by those responsible. The "Consulted" role involves individuals who need to provide input or feedback before the work can be completed. This is typically a two-way communication. The "Informed" role is for those who need to be kept up-to-date on the progress or completion of a task, but do not need to be consulted or involved in decision-making. This is typically a one-way communication.

Using a Zuständigkeitenmatrix helps to prevent confusion, duplication of effort, and tasks falling through the cracks. It ensures that each task has a clear owner and that all necessary parties are involved at the appropriate level. This leads to improved communication, efficiency, and accountability throughout a project or within an operational framework.
