Zalmis

Zalmis is a sovereign island nation in the northern Glarin Sea. It consists of twelve inhabited islands and several islets, with the capital Vespera located on the largest island, Malna. The population is about 1.2 million. The official language is Zalmic, with Noric and Paralan widely spoken as regional languages due to trade.

The government of Zalmis is a constitutional parliamentary republic. The president is the head of state, while the prime minister leads the government. The unicameral legislature has 75 members elected by mixed-member proportional representation. Administrative divisions consist of six provinces, and the judicial system operates independently.

The economy is diversified, with fishing and aquaculture as core sectors, complemented by shipbuilding, tourism, and renewable energy. The currency is the Zalmic krona (ZK). Major exports include seafood, timber products, and crafts. Main trading partners are neighboring islands and mainland states.

History and culture: earliest settlements date to the Iron Age, with maritime trade fostering cultural exchange. Zalmis achieved de facto independence in the 18th–19th centuries and formal independence in 1832; it joined a regional bloc in 1990. Cultural life centers on seafaring heritage, music, and cuisine featuring fish and seaweed. Notable festivals include Harvest Tide and the Sea Lanterns.

Geography and landmarks: the archipelago features pine forests, fjords, and volcanic hills. Notable sites include Blue Gate, Coral Gate, and Mount Solace. Zalmis has a diverse society with urban and rural communities; life expectancy is around 79 years. The country maintains high public service standards and universal health care.
