Glarin

Glarin is a city and administrative center located on the Lorn River in the eastern portion of the Verdanic Federation. Serving as the capital of Glarin District, it is a regional commercial hub with a population of about 72,000 as of 2023. The city traces its origins to a 12th‑century settlement founded by merchants and gained formal city status in 1268. It developed as a river trade town, later expanding industrially in the 19th and early 20th centuries. Today it combines historic brick-and-timber neighborhoods with modern districts that house manufacturing, logistics, and services.

The economy is diversified, with textiles and glassware manufacturing, a river port handling regional freight, and a growing service sector. The municipal government administers local affairs under a council–mayor system and coordinates with the federation’s regional authorities. The population is ethnically diverse, with languages including Verdan and minority communities.

Culturally, Glarin hosts an annual Lantern Festival and maintains institutions such as a municipal museum, a concert hall, and a university campus. Landmarks include the Glarin Citadel, the Lorn Bridge, and the Market Hall, which anchor the historic center.

Transportation infrastructure comprises a railway junction, national and regional highways, the river port, and a regional airport located nearby. Education is supported by Glarin University and several vocational colleges.
