Yuigahama

Yuigahama is a coastal district in Kamakura City, Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan. It centers on Yuigahama Beach, a sandy shoreline along Sagami Bay that forms part of Kamakura’s historic coastal belt and serves as a popular summertime destination.

Geography and access: The area lies along the southern Kamakura coast, between the Hase area and the western approaches to Enoshima. It is served by the Enoshima Electric Railway (Enoden), with Yuigahama Station located near the beach and providing convenient access from central Kamakura and Enoshima.

Features: Yuigahama Beach stretches along the bay and is backed by a promenade with shops, cafés, and facilities for visitors. It is frequented for swimming in summer and for scenic views toward Enoshima and, on clear days, Mount Fuji. The beach is part of the broader Kamakura coastal landscape, with easy access to nearby temples and historic sites.

Etymology: The name Yuigahama is written 由比ヶ浜 in Japanese. The origin of the place name is historical and tied to the coastal geography of the area; there is no single widely accepted explanation.
