Ythe

Ythe is a city-state and archipelago nation in the northern seas of the fictional continent of Athera. Its core is the capital city, Ythea, which anchors a network of coastal towns and inter-island ferries. The economy combines maritime trade, services, and tourism.

The name Ythe appears in records from the 9th century and is widely believed to derive from the Old Ythic word for shore or coast.

The territory covers about 1,200 square kilometers, consisting of ten inhabited islands connected by bridges and ferries. The climate is temperate maritime, with mild winters and humid summers; the western islands receive the most rainfall.

Ythe was founded by seafaring clans in the early Middle Ages and grew into a maritime city-state. It joined the Atheran Pact for regional autonomy and, after reform in the 18th century, established a parliamentary system.

Ythe operates as a parliamentary republic. A unicameral Assembly elects a prime minister who serves as head of government, while a ceremonial president acts as head of state. The judiciary is independent and civil liberties are protected.

The population is around 460,000. Ytheic is the official language; several minority languages are recognized. Key industries are shipping, finance, fishing, shipbuilding, and tourism, with growing investment in renewable energy and digital services.

Ythe is known for coastal markets, harbor festivals, and public art. Notable sites include the Marble Gate, the Lighthouse of Nera, and the Port Quarter. Education emphasizes oceanography, engineering, and sustainable development.
