Ympäristöerottelu

Ympäristöerottelu, known in English as environmental segregation or environmental discrimination, refers to the disproportionate exposure of certain population groups to environmental hazards and risks. This phenomenon often arises from socioeconomic disparities, historical inequities, and discriminatory land-use planning. Minority communities, low-income populations, and marginalized groups are frequently located in areas with higher levels of pollution, inadequate waste management, and limited access to green spaces and healthy environments.

The causes of ympäristöerottelu are complex and multifaceted. They can include factors such as redlining, where financial institutions historically denied services to residents of certain areas based on race or ethnicity, leading to disinvestment and concentration of undesirable land uses.
