Yhteisölähtöisiä describes approaches, processes or projects in which the community itself leads planning, decision‑making and implementation. The term is used in Finnish discussions on social services, urban development, education and health to emphasize local participation, co-creation and empowerment rather than top‑down delivery.

Key elements of yhteisölähtöisiä approaches include recognizing local knowledge, building the capacity of residents and organizations, and distributing decision‑making authority more broadly. The aim is to increase relevance, legitimacy and sustainability of actions by aligning them with community needs, values and resources. Participation is typically inclusive, with attention to diverse groups and equity.
