Yhdistyksillä is a Finnish term that translates to "associations" or "societies." In Finland, associations are a common and important form of voluntary organization. They are typically non-profit entities established by a group of individuals to pursue a common interest, hobby, purpose, or goal.

These associations can cover a vast range of activities, from sports clubs and cultural organizations to environmental groups, patient associations, and professional societies. The legal framework for associations in Finland is primarily governed by the Associations Act, which outlines their establishment, governance, and dissolution.

To form a yhdistys, a minimum of three founding members are generally required. They must draft and adopt statutes (säännöt) that define the association's name, purpose, membership rules, decision-making processes, and financial management. Once registered with the Finnish Patent and Registration Office (PRH), the association gains legal personality.

Associations play a vital role in Finnish civil society, fostering community engagement, promoting shared interests, and providing services or advocacy for their members and the wider public. They are often funded through membership fees, donations, grants, and sometimes through commercial activities. Their governance typically involves a board of directors elected by the members at an annual general meeting.
