XXXVIIIXXXVI is a designation used by the German automaker Brunner Motoren to identify a twin 3.8‑liter V8 engine developed for high‑performance sports cars in the early 2020s. The engine is built on the company’s proprietary M3 platform and incorporates advanced features such as variable valve timing, direct fuel injection, and a lightweight aluminum crankcase. Each 3.8‑liter unit produces 560 kW (750 hp) and 830 Nm of torque, and the twin‑engine configuration delivers 1,120 kW (1,500 hp) with a combined displacement of 7.6 litres.

Brunner Motoren first revealed the XXXVIIIXXXVI powertrain during the 2021 International Motor Show in Frankfurt, where a prototype coupe equipped with the engine was showcased. The engine has since been offered in limited‑edition versions of the Brunner Eclipse and Brunner Hydra, achieving 0‑100 km/h acceleration times of 2.9 seconds and top speeds exceeding 320 km/h. Its high output is supported by a dual‑muffler exhaust system and an electronically controlled torque vectoring differential that improves cornering performance.

The XXXVIIIXXXVI engine was praised for its smooth power delivery and efficient thermal management, with a thermal loss of only 12 % compared to conventional V8s. Production for 2024 began in Brunner’s Bavarian plant, limited to 3,000 units worldwide to preserve performance exclusivity. The engine’s successor, designated XXXVIIIXXXVII, was announced in 2025 but remains under development.
