XMPsivukohteet

XMPsivukohteet is a term used to describe a set of metadata constructs within the Extensible Metadata Platform (XMP) intended to encode page-level targets, or sivukohteet, inside digital documents and media. The concept helps annotate specific pages, page ranges, or navigational anchors to enable precise referencing, indexing, and accessible navigation across formats such as PDF, EPUB, and archival image sets.

Although not defined as an official XMP standard, practitioners often propose a dedicated namespace (for example xmpsivukohteet) and a small set of properties to describe a target’s position, label, and relation to document structure. Typical properties might include Page, PageLabel, and Target or Anchor to indicate the page number, a human-readable label, and how the target relates to the document’s outline or structure. The approach is usually implemented as RDF/XML inside the XMP metadata packet.

In practice, XMPsivukohteet is represented as structured metadata within an XMP packet. A representative snippet would associate a page number with a descriptive label and, optionally, a reference to a related structural element such as a chapter or bookmark. This enables tools to surface page-target information for navigation, indexing, or cross-document linking.

Applications include digital publishing workflows, library and archive indexing, e-book production, and accessibility tooling. Benefits include improved navigation, precise cross-referencing between documents, and better support for automated processing. Challenges involve the lack of a universally adopted standard, potential conflicts with existing XMP schemas, namespace management, and varying support across reader and editor software.
