Wapeningsnetten

Wapeningsnetten are prefabricated steel meshes used to reinforce concrete. They consist of intersecting wires that form a regular grid, embedded in the concrete to carry tensile forces that concrete alone cannot resist. Wapeningsnetten are commonly produced as welded fabric panels or as rolled mesh, and they can be made from carbon steel with finishes such as hot-dip galvanizing, epoxy coatings, or stainless steel for increased durability.

The meshes vary in wire diameter, grid spacing, and overall size to match structural requirements. Welded fabric provides a rigid, easily placed grid, while rolled mesh can be cut and bent to accommodate irregular geometries. Standards governing materials, dimensions, and protective coatings exist in many regions, and manufacturers specify compatible finishes and installation guidelines.

Applications of Wapeningsnetten include reinforced concrete slabs and floors, walls and columns, foundations, precast elements, tunnels, and bridges. They are placed in the formwork before concrete is poured and are covered by an adequate concrete cover to prevent corrosion. Joints may be overlapped and secured to maintain position during casting and curing.

Advantages include improved tensile strength, better control of shrinkage cracks, and faster installation compared with manually tied rebar mats. They contribute to uniform reinforcement distribution and can reduce on-site labor, though proper detailing, positioning, and concrete cover are essential for performance.
