Välisijahidridit, often translated as foreign fighter jihadists, refers to individuals who travel from their home country to participate in a conflict or armed struggle in a foreign land, typically motivated by religious or ideological extremism. These individuals often join groups engaged in jihad, or holy war, as defined by their interpretation of Islamic doctrine. The phenomenon is not new, with historical precedents of Muslims traveling to defend Islamic lands or support fellow Muslims.
