Voment

Voment is a term that refers to the act of violently or forcibly inducing vomiting in a person. It can be performed by people self-inducing or by others, such as in cases of food poisoning or other forms of poisoning where the individual has ingested something that needs to be expelled from their body as quickly as possible.

There are several methods used to voment including drinking excessive amounts of water, eating hot spicy food or drinking hot liquids, and sometimes it requires the direct stimulation of the vagus nerve.Voment is not the same as self-induced vomiting that occurs as a result of some eating disorders such as bulimia nervosa, but rather is often associated with certain toxic exposures and emergency situations where medical help is not immediately available.

Risks related to voment include not only physical damage to one's esophagus and throat but also emetic syncope which is fainting as a result of the sudden decrease in blood flow to the brain. Additionally, voment can cause dehydration and electrolyte imbalances that if left untreated can lead to serious health complications.

In some cases, voment may be performed as a last resort when the individual has ingested something that can cause serious damage or death. Emergency medical services should be contacted as soon as possible. In non-emergency situations, professionally induced vomiting by a trained medical professional is often safer and preferred over self-induced vomiting.
