Vloeistofsnede

Vloeistofsnede, also known as liquid cutting or waterjet cutting, is a machining process that uses a high-pressure stream of water to cut through a wide variety of materials. This stream of water is often mixed with an abrasive substance, such as sand or garnet, to enhance its cutting power. The abrasive particles, propelled by the water, erode the material surface, creating a precise cut.

The process typically involves a pump that pressurizes water to extremely high levels, often exceeding 60,000 psi. This pressurized water is then forced through a tiny nozzle, creating a focused, high-velocity jet. For abrasive waterjet cutting, the abrasive material is introduced into the water stream just before it exits the nozzle. The diameter of the nozzle and the pressure of the water determine the speed and effectiveness of the cutting process.

Vloeistofsnede is known for its versatility and its ability to cut materials that are difficult or impossible to cut with traditional methods. It can be used on metals, plastics, composites, stone, glass, and even food. A key advantage is that the process generates very little heat, which prevents thermal distortion or damage to the material being cut, a common issue with methods like laser cutting or plasma cutting. This lack of heat also means no hazardous fumes are produced, making it a safer and more environmentally friendly option.
