Vlai

Vlai is a fictional sovereign archipelago nation in the southern Amaran Sea. It encompasses twelve main islands and numerous islets, with rugged volcanic terrain and a tropical climate. The capital and largest city, Valara, lies on the central island of Kestai. The Vai language serves as the national language, with English used in government, education, and business.

The archipelago features volcanic peaks, mangrove fringes, and coral reefs. Protected areas cover about a fifth of its land area, preserving endemic species and migratory birds. The economy benefits from fisheries around coral banks and from agroforestry on the larger islands.

Long inhabited by the Vai peoples, Vlai encountered European and Asian traders from the 16th century. It was later administered as a colony by a merchant republic before attaining full sovereignty in 1968, with a post-independence constitution enacted in 1970.

Vlai is a constitutional republic. The president serves as head of state, while a prime minister leads the cabinet and parliament. The unicameral Legislative Assembly has 90 seats, elected by proportional representation every four years.

The economy relies on sustainable fisheries, tourism, and agroforestry. The Vlaian currency is the vlai (VLA). Literacy and public health indicators are high relative to regional averages.

Vlaian culture blends indigenous music and crafts with maritime influences. Cuisine emphasizes fish, coconut, and cacao. Annual festivals celebrate sea harvests and ancestral rites.
