Videoprojektioner, often referred to as video projection, is the process of taking a video signal and displaying it onto a surface, typically a screen or wall. This technology is widely used in various settings, from home entertainment and business presentations to large-scale public events and artistic installations. The core components of a video projection system include a video source, a projector, and a projection surface.

The video source can be anything that generates a video signal, such as a computer, Blu-ray player, streaming device, or camera. The projector is the device that receives this signal and uses light to create an image. Modern projectors employ various technologies, including LCD (Liquid Crystal Display), DLP (Digital Light Processing), and LCoS (Liquid Crystal on Silicon), each offering different characteristics in terms of brightness, contrast, color accuracy, and resolution. The image is then cast onto a projection surface, which can range from a dedicated projection screen designed to optimize light reflection to a simple white wall.

The size and quality of the projected image depend on several factors, including the projector's brightness (measured in lumens), resolution, contrast ratio, and the characteristics of the projection surface. Ambient light in the viewing environment also plays a significant role in the perceived quality of the projected image. High ambient light can wash out the image, reducing its vibrancy and detail.

Beyond typical entertainment and presentation uses, video projection has also evolved into a powerful medium for artistic expression. Projection mapping, for example, involves projecting video onto irregular surfaces, transforming buildings, objects, or landscapes into dynamic canvases. This technique is often employed in light shows, theatrical productions, and immersive art installations, creating captivating visual experiences.
