Verðfall

Verðfall is an Icelandic term that translates to "price drop" or "depreciation" in English. It generally refers to a decrease in the market value of an asset over time. This can apply to a wide range of items, including vehicles, electronics, and even real estate, though the rate of verðfall varies significantly depending on the specific asset and market conditions.

For tangible assets like cars, verðfall is a predictable phenomenon. A new car, for example, loses a substantial portion of its value as soon as it's driven off the lot and continues to depreciate with age and mileage. This depreciation is a key factor for buyers and sellers to consider when assessing the true cost of ownership and the resale value of a vehicle.

Similarly, electronics such as smartphones and computers experience rapid verðfall. The introduction of newer models with improved technology quickly renders older versions less desirable and thus less valuable. This rapid obsolescence is a common characteristic of the technology market.
